Upon starting the car I noted that it seems to idle a bit quieter than previously, though I didn't think that it had idled 'noisy' previously. I disconnected and unbolted the throttle body and gave it a good cleaning to where it was spotless, and reinstalled it. However, that did not seem to change anything except the tapping noise was gone in the improved -AB part.Ģ-days ago, I picked-up an $8 can of CRC Throttle Body Cleaner. I acquired a new ( black) one and installed it. I did a bit of researching regarding the PCV valve and learned that Chrysler changed the part number to a -AB and was now using the black PCV valve over the previous white/-AA valve. We determined the tapping noise was coming from the ( white) PCV valve. Nothing yielded a resolution.Ī couple weeks ago while changing the water pump we had to remove the intake plenum and noted a lot of gunk caked on the inside of the throttle body, and also heard a tapping noise from the upper right side of the engine.

I went through all kinds of diagnosis, searching through countless forum posts, and attempted solutions including applied software updates to the ECM and transmission, changing spark plugs, changing to a slightly heavier motor oil ( 5W-30). Never noted this problem/symptom on my 2006 300C. One thing that I noted with this higher mileage 300C was that on MDS mode at low RPM there (was) a vibration exactly as described here. I had acquired a 2008 5.7L 300C with 120K-miles on the odometer, and had previously owned a lower mileage (purchased new) 2006 300C.

  • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST.OK, thought I might chime in in this thread.
  • Replace both sets of lifters if no other possible causes remain.
  • If the entire engine is restricted disassembly of the entire engine block may be necessary. Inspect the oil passages to the Solenoids and from the Solenoids to the lifters. Remove the each pair of lifters for Cylinders 4 and 6. Remove the Bank 2 per Service Information. Remove both Solenoids on Bank 2 of the engine block.

If the passages are not clogged with debris, replace the MDS Solenoid 6.ġ. If the passages are unable to be cleaned out, replacing the engine block may be necessary. If the passages are restricted, clean the passages and replace the MDS Solenoid 6.

  • Remove the Solenoid and check for any debris that may be blocking the oil passages to the Solenoid.
  • With the scan tool actuate the MDS Solenoid 6. NOTE: The DTC must not be active for the actuator test to operate properly, clear all DTC before continuing. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure)
  • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST.
  • If the passages are not clogged with debris, replace the MDS Solenoid 4. If the passages are clogged, clean the passages and replace the MDS Solenoid 4. With the scan tool actuate the MDS Solenoid 4.Ĭan you feel and hear the Solenoid Actuating? Remove the Intake Manifold per Service Information.

    (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).

  • Perform the CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT DTC.
  • NOTE: Diagnose any Deactivation or Oil Pressure DTCs before continuing with this test. NOTE: Diagnose any Misfire DTCs before continuing. INSUFFICIENT ACTING ON THE LIFTER LOCKING PINSĪlways perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
  • Set Condition: O2 sensor readings on Bank 2 side indicate a lean condition while in 4 cylinder mode.
  • When Monitored: Transition from 4 to 8 cylinder mode.
  • The oil pressure pushes in the locking pins that allows the lifter to collapse, decoupling the valves and camshaft. By actuating the solenoid, oil pressure is raised to the pair of lifters that coincide with each particular solenoid. When all criteria has been met, power is supplied to each MDS Solenoid when is making a transition from 8 mode to 4 cylinder mode.
